Kiki de Montparnasse

"October 2, 1901 – April 29, 1953), was a French artists' model, nightclub singer, actress and painter. Her chosen name was simply Kiki, but she was also referred to as Reine de la Montparnasse ("the Queen of Montparnasse") and Kiki de Montparnasse ("Kiki of Montparnasse"). She flourished in, and helped define, the 1920s liberated culture of Paris. In 1996, biographers Billy Klüver and Julie Martin called her "one of the century's first truly independent women.""

Strangely comforted to find that there is a formal definition for this.
Bricolage, pronounced /ˌbriːkoʊˈlɑːʒ/, /ˌbrɪkoʊˈlɑːʒ/[1] is a term used in several disciplines, among them the visual arts and literature, to refer to:
* the construction or creation of a work from a diverse range of things which happen to be available;
* a work created by such a process.
It is borrowed from the French word bricolage, from the verb bricoler – equivalent to the English "do-it-yourself", the core meaning in French being, however, "fiddle, tinker" and, by extension, "make creative and resourceful use of whatever materials are to hand (regardless of their original purpose)". The original engineering meaning of hacker is a similar American term.
Bricolage as a design approach – in the sense of building by trial and error – is often contrasted to engineering: theory-based construction.
A person who engages in bricolage is a bricoleur: someone who invents his or her own strategies for using existing materials in a creative, resourceful, and original way.

Movie: In Bruges
Choice lines:
Ray: They're filming midgets!
Ken: Coming up?
Ray: What's up there?
Ken: The view.
Ray: The view of what? The view of down here? I can see that down here.
Ken: Ray, you are about the worst tourist in the whole world.
Ray: Ken, I grew up in Dublin. I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't.
Ray: Why didn't you wave hello to me today when I waved hello to you today?
Jimmy: I was on a very strong horse tranquilizer today; Wasn't waving hello to anybody. Except... maybe to a horse.
Harry: Leave my kids fucking out of it! What have they done? You fucking retract that bit about my cunt fucking kids!
Ken: I retract that bit about your cunt fucking kids.
Harry: Insult my fucking kids? That's going overboard, mate!
Ken: I retracted it, didn't I?
Harry (to wife): I'm sorry for calling you an inanimate fuckin object. I was upset.
Harry: An Uzi? I'm not from South Central Los Angeles. I didn't come here to shoot twenty black ten year olds in a drive-by. I want a normal gun for a normal person.
Eirik: I can't see! I can't see!
Ray: Of course you can't see! I just a shot a blank in your fucking eye!

Bernie Mac has passed away
NY Times reports Bernie Mac has passed away from complications due to pneumonia.
I really started to love him from The Bernie Mac Show. His threats to his niece and nephew paralleled my threats to my sister and brother.
He cracked me the hell up.

Movie: Beautiful Losers
Corporate sponsored but who cares? I like Wooster's description of it: for the DIYers and makes you want to go out and create art. It's been a long time since I've felt that inspiration. I dreamt last night that I was painting in a studio and that all my works came to life. I'll take that as an auspicious sign. Because it's nice to believe in something.
Here's a clip. It opens tonight at the IFC film center.
The Price of Success from beautifullosersfilm on Vimeo.
I do love AMAZE/Barry McGee. I just have such fond memories of riding in the car as a child and seeing his mark through the streets of San Francisco. I'd stare out the window looking for the next sign. His "Hello" to me, quiet and lost in my own world.

Video: Who's Going to Save My Soul Now
Damn this video is good. I hate being a cliche but it hits every spot. Is this a universal script?
