I almost cry every time I see the preview but I'm beginning to worry that this may turn out like "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," where expectations are raised to the level they can't be met.

Movie: Flood Tide

I've been loosely following the Swimming Cities of the Switchback Sea and Serenissima but this is the first time I've heard of this movie. I want to see this.

FLOOD TIDE

FLOOD TIDE is a narrative film about a journey down a river in the midst of ongoing economic and ecological collapse. The film tells the story of a group of friends who, driven by dreams, desperation, and a sense of adventure, decide to build a boat out of scrap material. As they begin to build more people gather at the river, assembling vessels out of the trash that surrounds them. Inspired, but uncertain, they set out down the river to make a new life for themselves.

FLOOD TIDE blends narrative, cinema verite, and improvised experimental film. The film was shot amidst the artist Swoon’s 2008 Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea project, in which seven homespun boats were built and crewed by an eclectic group of artists and performers. The boats floated down the Hudson River staging performances in towns along the way.

Article: Netflix Awards $1 Million Prize and Starts a New Contest

Netflix holds a competition for a better recommendation software than its current one. Interesting for competition and business.

The company’s challenge, begun in October 2006, was both geeky and formidable: come up with a recommendation software that could do a better job accurately predicting the movies customers would like than Netflix’s in-house software, Cinematch. To qualify for the prize, entries had to be at least 10 percent better than Cinematch.

Movie: Paper Heart

I want to see this.

Because it's about love and it stars (and is written by) the page from 30 Rock. And I have a feeling it's one of those movies that I'll end up grinning like an idiot through.

I saw a review and found out that the romance between Cera and Yi is fictional which is disappointing because it's supposed to be a movie about a cynic of love. And part of the reason she's a cynic is because of Hollywood and media portrayal of love. Sooooo, it's a movie about the fable that is love and they throw in a fake love story amongst the real stories?...the logic is a bit jagged...unless it's some reverse psychology that I can't wrap my head around.

But I still want to watch it because of the aforementioned reasons and because I'm a sucker for fake love stories. Especially one with a how-to-woo-a-hipster-girl soundtrack. And there are paper dolls and I'm a sucker for cutesy-craft-nerd aesthetic.

V: Like Stuart Little. I guess G-force is guineau pigs but they're just like mice but fatter - fat mice. They need to mix it up.
Me: But mice work in Ratatouille because you find mice in restaurants. What other animals would you choose?
V: I don't know...maybe lizards.
Me: What???? Lizards? It's in a restaurant. There are no lizards in restaurants.
V: There might be lizards. Or...spiders. It could be spiders.
Me: WHAT? Spiders don't cook! It can't be spiders.
V: They might cook. You just might not see them. There are no good spiders in movies. Except for Aragog in Harry Potter and she was evil. There need to be more good spiders in movies.
